Jalopnik needs a Hot Wheels series

Kinja'd!!!

I'm standing in the aisle at Toys R' Us typing this on my phone and can't help but notice how diluted the die cast vehicle selection has become. Twilight, Ghost, Miami Vice and Magnum P.I. - they all have their own collection of die cast vehicles.

Two automotive magazines are represented here, Road & Track and Car and Driver, proudly displaying, get this...a 1971 Mustang and a 2011 Hennessey Camaro. Really? I expect something a bit more 'enthusiast' from a car magazine.

This is why I propose that we come up with 5 cars that would be offered in a Hot Wheels Jalopnik Series. Place all 5 of your cars in a single post and the one most recommended wins.

Now, this is all for fun, meaning no one is actually talking to Hot Wheels, but I think as enthusiasts we can collectively demand a diecast series that represents our automotive passion.

After all we are the ones buying these cars, even if we say it's for our kid.

damn. I was at ToysRUs, and they didn't have half that stuff.

Pickings everywhere have been kind of slim for good hotwheels, at least around here.

Not really caring so much that it is from the movie Ghost, but that Greenlight Fox Mustang GT is a good car in and of itself.

I agree with all of this. You know what we need from Hot Wheels? The Jalopnik Car-B-Que TM Trackset. http://jalopnik.com/tag/car-b-que The trackset is designed in such a way that when cars roll over specific bumps, it enacts a spring-loaded reaction within each car to pop out faux fire. Fun for everyone, cheaper than a real burning Ferrari!

I must say Japanese Nostalgic Car is doing a great job of working with Mattel on this, spawning everything from a C10 Skyline to a Honda EF hatch and Datsun 620 pickup. There's no reason Jalopnik can't do the same. There need not be a full "collector" lineup- we want these cars to get into the hands of future enthusiasts. Just put a little JALOPNIK decal on them, as JNC has done with their inkan.

Enough time talking- let's get these things into stores!

I have a couple of the Fox Body cars and they seem to be very hard to find. I wonder why they decided on 1992 for the year (other than the Cobra above) for the base cars...they could have just went with 1993 and had the option to have the Cobra, and the R...it was the highlight year.

LOL, yes I know who T.C. is. I also know they used two Vanagons on the show. An early (80-83.5) air cooled model, and then an (83.5-85) once they went watercooled.

Was it called the "sunagon" on the show, or is that Hot Wheel's way of not paying royalties ?

Very disappointed this car made this and the '65 Riviera from Roadhouse did NOT. Hell, the Mercedes and monster truck from that movie would've worked, too.

Who knows, but I find it a little disturbing that a child's toy would have theme marketing based on a movie that is not intended for child-age viewers. I guess they are marketing to the adult collectors now.
